Ever since I saw the movie Mystic Pizza, I have always wanted to visit the town of Mystic, Connecticut. Everything about it is what I had imagined New England would be — charming, seaside cottages mixed with quaint little shops and sailboats (and of course, drawbridge ice cream!). In 2011, I moved to Connecticut for a short time for grad school and visiting Mystic became a pretty normal place to day-trip. I also met Liz (the beautiful bride!) during my assistantship as a student club advisor. So, when Liz reached out last year about photographing her wintry wedding in Mystic, I could not have said, “YES!” with more excitement or enthusiasm!
The day started out at Hyatt Place Mystic right down the street from the reception venue Latitude 41. Liz’s wedding dress was #royalwedding, to say the least! The beautifully intricate, gold/ivory stitching was unbelievable. I must have taken at least 100 photos of just the dress! That paired with her velvet, emerald shoes (which, matched her stunning emerald engagement ring) were just everything a photographer can hope for in wedding details.
For a December 15th wedding, the weather was actually a very warm in the mid fifties! This was so unusual for Connecticut, but worked extremely well for their bridal portraits. After we spent the morning with them getting ready, we headed over to the dock at Latitude 41 where Kevin was waiting, facing toward downtown Mystic. Liz looked fabulous in her fur shawl as she made her way down the pier to see Kevin for their first look! My favorite part was Kevin’s huge grin as he saw Liz for the first time; it was such genuine, pure joy! The tall ships in the harbor were the perfect background for their portraits. We finished by taking some fun photos with their bridal party and parents before heading over to the church.
The whole ceremony was just gorgeous and so festive! The church itself was quintessential New England aesthetic, built right on a hill overlooking The NE Sound (I mean, how much more perfect can it get???). Afterward, we snuck away for a few more seaside photos at a very small beach we found by accident. Very much a stroke of serendipity!
As the evening began, we made our way over to Latitude 41 for their reception in the most stunning, wintry themed room, filled with twinkle lights and Christmas decor. I loved everything about the very seaside-focused aesthetic and how it perfectly matched what Liz and Kevin had envisioned during their beginning stages of planning. I especially loved their beautiful cake by Creative Cakes by Donna. Talk about a beautiful piece of art!
I would be remiss to not mention their amazing live band, Sugar! Guests danced until the very end, and I was so impressed with the musicians skills and talent! They were the cherry on top of such a fun evening.
Congrats again, Liz and Kevin, on your wonderful wedding and marriage!
A special thanks to the wedding team that made Liz and Kevin's day possible!
